Wake Forest

What Makes Wake Forest So Cool

This small town has a big reputation. Once home to Wake Forest University, Wake Forest has grown out of its college town identity and into a community that's synonymous with hometown living. Residents can meet their neighbors at a coffee shop downtown, sip lemonade from their front porch, or enjoy an afternoon on the lake. And thanks to Wake Forest's ideal location off Capital Boulevard, Raleigh and Research Triangle Park are close by!

Calvin Jones House

You can thank this historic home for one of the most prestigious colleges in the nation. Originally purchased by a local physician named Calvin Jones in 1820, this Greek Revival-style house was part of the original campus of Wake Forest University, then known as Wake Forest College. While Wake Forest University is no longer located in the area (it relocated to Winston-Salem in the 1950s), residents still take pride in this historic landmark as the birthplace of the university.

Downtown Wake Forest

With the perfect blend of both past and present, Downtown Wake Forest is where the entire community gets together to celebrate or just enjoy the hometown atmosphere. Cozy coffee shops, local restaurants, used bookstores, and antique galleries pack White Street and give residents a taste of the small-town life while offering some of the more modern amenities that people crave. As for events, there's always something happening downtown: holiday parades, street festivals, outdoor concerts, you name it!

Falls Lake

North Raleigh and Wake Forest share this popular oasis in the Triangle. Since Falls Lake is a whopping 12,000-acre reservoir, it naturally has become a staycation destination for local residents, who enjoy boating, fishing, hiking, swimming, and camping near its shores. A must-visit at this lake is the Falls Lake Trail, which is part of the long-distance Mountains-to-Sea Trail.
